Grant Awards, 2015

Sunday, June 28, 2015

We are thrilled to announce that Sunday’s Child has awarded two separate charity grants of $33,125 each at our 1st annual membership meeting held yesterday, June 28th, 2015 at The Maritime Place (Studer Building at the Maritime Park).  Congratulations to Arc Gateway and Legal Services of North Florida, Inc.! The two winners were announced following presentations by each of the five finalists and a live vote by Sunday’s Child members.

Arc Gateway (category of Economic Development) will use the $33,125 for the purchase of a new forklift, allowing adults with disabilities to work and receive a paycheck while providing a service to our community.  Pollack Industries, a project of Arc Gateway that employs disabled adults on production contracts, utilizes a team of twelve individuals with disabilities and one non-disabled person to manufacture cement parking bumpers and cement air-conditioning pads for local contractors, businesses, and builders. These cement items, weighing between 200-225 pounds, must be transported from the production areas, loaded onto trucks and delivered to project sites. This cannot be done without the aid of a forklift.
Currently, their forklift is over 20 years old, breaks often, and must be replaced in order to continue providing services. A new forklift would aid in streamlining and expanding production and distribution.

Legal Services of North Florida, Inc. (category of Family & LGBT) will use the $33,125 to hire a staff attorney for one year to develop enhanced advocacy and education tools to support victims of violence and bullying within our community. This attorney will go into our community to educate other providers of their obligations, including school personnel, law enforcement and the courts, our entire community will be elevated to an improved dialogue. The Legal Education and Advocacy for Victim Empowerment (LEAVE) project will give victims and allies legal tools with which to prevent violence and bullying in our families, schools, and entire community. While LEAVE may serve victims of all different experiences, a focus will be placed on LGBTQ youth, LGBTQ relationships, homeless and dependent youth, and youth with disabilities.

Sunday's Child Launches Resources Section of Website

Pensacola, Fla. — Pensacola-based nonprofit organization, Sunday's Child, launches Resource section of website to provide Pensacola Bay Area businesses and organizations access to important information regarding nondiscrimination policies.

The new section of the website offers visitors access to the very best content from the web, with links to best practices, exemplar organizations and other educational and training resources that Pensacola business leaders can implement into practice.

Sunday's Child requires that applicants to its grants must comply with specific regulations, including the implementation of a nondiscrimination policy.

"Our goal is to promote a community that embraces diversity, especially among LGBT citizens," says Kris Poore, Sunday's Child board member, "but many organizations that don't currently have a nondiscrimination policy [specific to LGBT issues] need help with creating one. That's why it's important for us to be a clearinghouse for resources in helping leaders draft, implement and sustain these types of organizational policies. This is not about calling or writing your government representatives. That's not our goal. We need organizational leadership to be proactive in embracing these policies, outside of government legislation."

The Resource section of the website will be continually updated as new information and educational content becomes available.

January 12, 2015

Pensacola, Fla. — Pensacola-based Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) non-profit organization, Sunday's Child, launches new brand and website at sundayschild.org.

The new brand, designed by Kris Poore, Creative Director at idgroup, Sunday's Child board member and out professional, comes in celebration of the 2015 new year, and the organization's inaugural year.

The new logo features a six-sided hexagon that incorporates the colors of the rainbow, a commonly used design element representative of the LGBT community worldwide.

"The mission of Sunday's Child is something very important to me, and close to home," says Poore. "The logo represents more than just the LGBT community. It's meant to represent a wide range of people. It's meant to capture the true meaning of diversity—in all its entirety."

In addition to the new logo, Poore developed the newly revamped website, as well as the stationery materials for the executive committee to use for the normal operations of the organization.
